Moses Cone Health System has earned the Gold Star Standard Award from NC Prevention Partners (NCPP) for providing the highest standard of excellence of tobacco cessation programs offered to its employees.
Moses Cone Health System is among the first in North Carolina to earn the Gold Star Standard award by NCPP.
“We are committed to being a leader in this initiative by modeling responsible, healthy behaviors,” says Cindy Farrand, President of The Women’s Hospital of Greensboro. “We will continue to include tobacco cessation and other wellness programs as part of our business plan for healthy employees. We will actively encourage and support employees, patients and visitors to adopt healthier lifestyles.”
NCPP works with leaders and staff of North Carolina hospitals to improve tobacco cessation efforts and resources available to hospital employees and patients.
In order to receive this recognition, Moses Cone Health System refers employees to effective quit programs (counseling), provides comprehensive benefits (nicotine replacement therapy and prescription medications) and offers incentives to encourage employees to quit tobacco use. These are among several components recommended by NCPP for comprehensive quit-tobacco programs in hospitals. NC Prevention Partners’ work with North Carolina hospitals is funded by The Duke Endowment and is in partnership with the North Carolina Hospital Association.
NC Prevention Partners is a leader in reducing preventable illness and early death in North Carolina caused by tobacco use, poor nutrition, physical inactivity and obesity. The organization helped North Carolina’s acute care hospitals go 100 percent tobacco free across their campuses.
