Awards and Recognitions
In 2010, Moses Cone Health System received the following awards/recognitions:
- Moses Cone Health System has received the Red Apple Award from North Carolina Prevention Partners for encouraging employees to make healthy food choices.
- Moses Cone Health System Regional Cancer Center has been granted Three-Year Accreditation with Commendation by the Commission on Cancer (CoC) of the American College of Surgeons.
The accreditation covers Moses Cone Regional Cancer Center at Wesley Long Community Hospital, the satellite offices at MedCenter High Point and Stoney Creek and the Annie Penn Cancer Center at Annie Penn Hospital in Reidsville.
- Moses Cone Health System has earned the Gold Star Standard Award from NC Prevention Partners (NCPP) for providing the highest standard of excellence of tobacco cessation programs offered to its employees. Moses Cone Health System is among the first in North Carolina to earn the Gold Star Standard award by NCPP.
- Moses Cone Health System Executive Vice President and Chief Nursing Officer Joan Wessman, RN, MS, will receive the Mentor Award from the AONE Institute, part of the American Organization of Nurse Executives and a unit of the Health Research and Educational Trust. The award is one of AONE's 2010 recognition awards, which highlight AONE members who have demonstrated "the best of the best" in leadership practice.
- Moses Cone Health System has met The Joint Commission's national standards for healthcare quality and safety and has earned The Joint Commission's Gold Seal of ApprovalTM.
- The Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital and Wesley Long Community Hospital have been designated "Blue Distinction Centers for Knee and Hip Replacement." In addition Moses Cone Hospital has been designated a "Blue Distinction Center for Spine Surgery." The "Blue Distinctions" were awarded by Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Carolina as part of a national program of the Blue Cross Blue Shield Association.
- The Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital has been recognized as one of the top 100 hospitals in the nation in terms of the value it provides to the community. The ranking comes from Cleverley + Associates, a leading healthcare financial consulting firm specializing in operational benchmarking and performance enhancement strategies. The group released the findings as part of its new publication: State of the Hospital Industry - 2010 Edition.
- Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina has designated Wesley Long Community Hospital as a Blue Distinction Center for Bariatric Surgery. Blue Distinction is a designation awarded by Blue Cross and Blue Shield companies to medical facilities that demonstrate expertise in delivering quality healthcare. The designation is based on rigorous, evidence-based selection criteria established in collaboration with expert physicians' and medical organizations recommendations.
In 2009, Moses Cone Health System was recognized with the following awards/designations:
- The American Nurses Credentialing Center's Magnet Recognition Program for excellence in nursing services has once again designated all five Moses Cone Health System hospitals as Magnet. The Health System is among 2 percent of hospitals across the country recognized with this prestigious award for nursing excellence and professionalism.
- The Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital has been named a 2009/10 Consumer Choice Award winner. The National Research Corporation (NRC) presents this award annually to hospitals that consumers say have the highest quality and image. In this year's study, the NRC surveyed area consumers in more than 300 markets across the country.
- Tim Rice, President and CEO, Moses Cone Health System, has been appointed to The Joint Commission's Board of Commissioners by the American Hospital Association. His three-year term began in January 2010. The Joint Commission is the preeminent not-for-profit organization that evaluates and accredits healthcare organization across the United States.
- Moses Cone Health System has been recognized as a top 100 hospital when it comes to value and quality. The System has been named a top-ranked Community Value Provider by Cleverley + Associates - a leading healthcare financial consulting firm. The company released the findings in its new publication: State of the Hospital Industry - 2009 Edition.
- An amazing 18 of the Great 100 Nurses in North Carolina in 2009 work for Moses Cone Health System. The annual list of outstanding nursing professionals is created by the grassroots organization the Great 100.
- The Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital was awarded the third U.S. Department of Health and Human Services' Organ Donation Medal of Honor award within four years. The award indicates that 75 percent of patients who are eligible organ donors donate. Moses Cone surpassed this national goal at 84 percent.
- Five programs of the Greensboro Area Health Education Center (AHEC) have been re-accredited. Each received the highest accreditation terms offered.
- Moses Cone Health System Behavioral Health Center has received a 2008 National Center for Nursing Quality Award for Outstanding Nursing Quality. The award was presented at the third annual NDNQI Conference in Dallas.
- The Bariatric Surgery Center at Wesley Long Community Hospital has been accredited as a Level 1A facility by the Bariatric Surgery Center Network Accreditation Program of the American College of Surgeons.
- The Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital is the first Level II trauma center in North Carolina to be verified by the American College of Surgeons and the state of North Carolina.
- The Moses Cone Health System Web site received an eHealthcare Leadership Award - Award of Distinction, Best Health/Healthcare Content, from the Healthcare Internet Conference.
