Therapeutic Recreation


Dear Recreation Therapy Student,

We look forward to your clinical affiliation at Moses Cone Health System!

The Rehabilitation Services Department offers a wide range of acute, inpatient and outpatient servicesYou will be assigned to a specific venue, but may have opportunities to observe in other clinical areas. Rehabilitation Services are provided 363 days per year, observing Thanksgiving and Christmas days. Your schedule will depend on patient care needs and your clinical instructor's (CI's) schedule, and may include weekend coverage. Please inform the Center Coordinator of Clinical Education (CCCE) if you require and an adapted work schedule or have special needs.

Students are responsible for arranging their own housing and meals during the affiliation. Most sites will provide access to a refrigerator and microwave, and Acute and Inpatient Rehab facilities have a cafeteria on site.

Parking is available at no charge to students at every site. On the first day of your affiliation you may park in the visitors' lot or parking deck, depending on your affiliation site.

Uniforms are not required. Please refer to the Dress Code Policy. For all rehabilitation venues and facilities, the dress code consists of black, tan or blue pants and a "professional" shirt of any solid color. Cargo pants are unacceptable. While on acute care, you may also wear solid, dark purple scrubs and, if you choose, an undershirt of solid white.

During your affiliation with Moses Cone Health System, you will have access to the Medical Libraries located at The Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital and Wesley Long Community Hosptial. You will also have Internet access for research and e-mail.

At least two weeks prior to your affiliation, you and/or your program must provide the clinical site with the following information.  Some information may be faxed, mailed or e-mailed to the Center Coordinator of Clinical Education (CCCE).  Please include the completed Student Check-Off Form  in your packet:

  • Copy of immunization records (MMR).
  • Copy of TB test and results performed within the past year.
  • Chicken pox verification form.
  • Copy of Hepatitis B vaccination or completed declination form.
  • Copy of influenza vaccination.
  • Copy of current CPR certification.

Additional information that may be required:

If you have not received a confirmation e-mail with necessary pre-affiliation information at least three weeks prior to your affiliation, please contact Jennifer Martin, PT, so that we may provide you with the name of your CI and the site and venue to which you have been assigned. On the morning of your first day, you will report to your assigned site at a pre-designated time as outlined in your confirmation e-mail. For further information, please review the Clinical Education Program Information.
