Support Groups and Tools for Living


These groups are designed for cancer patients and their loved ones. Unless otherwise noted, all sessions meet in the second-floor conference room at Moses Cone Regional Cancer Center. To register or for more information, call Terry Moore-Painter at 832-0364.

  • Gastrointestinal Cancer Support Group
    Meets the second Tuesday of each month, 5:30-7 p.m., Wesley Long Education Center.
  • Prostate Cancer Support Group
    Meets the third Monday of each month, 7-8:30 p.m.
  • Breast Cancer Support Group
    Meets the third Tuesday of each month, 7-8:30 p.m.
  • Young Women's Breast Cancer Support Group
    Meets the fourth Monday of each month, 7-8:30 p.m.
  • Look Good, Feel Better
    Meets the second Monday of each month, 10 a.m.-noon. Call the American Cancer Society at 1-888-227-6333 to register.
  • Thyroid Cancer Support Group
    Meets the second Saturday of each month, 10:30 a.m.-noon, at Wesley Long Community Hospital Education Center, Classroom 2. For more information, call Joanna Saporito at 978-9501.

After Breast Cancer Exercise Class
Meets the first Wednesday of each month, 11 a.m. to noon, at the Moses Cone Outpatient Rehabilitation Center at Guilford College, 603 Dolley Madison Road, Call 315-4760 for more information.

Yoga
Meets each Wednesday, 6-7 p.m. Registration is not required for this class for cancer patients and their loved ones.

Tai Chi
Meets each Wednesay, 9:30-10:30 a.m. Registration is required for this class for cancer patents, survivors and family members.

Massage
Two free massages are available for each patient currently undergoing treatment at Moses Cone Regional Cancer Center. Call Dawn Swinson at 832-0894 for more information.

Find Your New Normal
A program for cancer survivors who have completed treatment, this eight-session program is based on a model of wellness and addresses such issues as emotional well-being, nutrition, exercise, spiritual wellness and self-care. Exercise classes are also an important component of the program. The program is offered several times throughout the year. To register or for more information, call Terry Moore-Painter at 832-0364.

Counseling Services
Counseling servies are available at the Moses Cone Regional Cancer Center for patients and family members. For information, call psychologist Jeanne Peters at 832-0819.
