Minimum Qualifications : MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Associate Degree/Certificate in Medical Laboratory Technician Program.

Licensure/ Certification: ASCP/AMT certification or registry eligible.

Experience: Two years generalist in a hospital or physician office laboratory
NOTE: An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
External Job Description : BASIC PURPOSE:

Responsibilities include preanalytical and post analytical testing phases of routine laboratory work and all related activities, as well as support and backup for the phlebotomy team.

MAJOR WORK ACTIVITIES:

1. Efficiently covers all technical areas of the lab, demonstrating ability to maintain positive specimen identification, produce and report accurate results within an acceptable turn-around-time, and follow protocols for repeating and calling abnormal and stat reports.

2. Employs safe work practices, exercises proper care of equipment, and adheres to written policies and procedures for all tasks.

3. Performs appropriate instrument startup, shutdown, QC, maintenance, and calibration as required and maintaining records to comply with COLA/CLIA national standards.

4. Demonstrates ability to recognize abnormal situations and troubleshoot abnormal situations, basic instrument and testing problems in a manner that is timely and ensures both quality and efficiency; documents all remedial actions.

5. Exercises appropriate response and judgment when faced with unusually stressful situations (e.g., short-staffing, computer down-time, and natural or other emergencies), by maintaining composure and making sound decisions.

6. Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
