Moses Cone Health System Heart and Vascular Center at The Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital is one of the area's leaders in cardiac care.

The 548-bed hospital has long been known for its extensive cardiac services, advanced technology and experienced team of physicians and specialists. The heart program was formally established in 1970 with the opening of the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory at Moses Cone Hospital. One year later, the hospital performed its first open-heart surgery.

Today, Moses Cone Heart and Vascular Center is among the largest cardiac centers in North Carolina, and its reputation for advanced cardiac procedures is well known among the nation's medical community.

Our more than 30 cardiologists and six cardiac surgeons perform more than 10,000 heart procedures a year and have an average of 13.8 years of cardiology experience. Trained at many of the nation's finest teaching institutions - including Mayo Clinic, Cleveland Clinic, University of Alabama-Birmingham and Vanderbilt University - our physicians choose to care for their patients at Moses Cone Heart and Vascular Center.

From diagnosis, treatment, rehabilitation and education, Moses Cone Heart and Vascular Center provides patients and their physicians with access to the most advanced technology in a supportive, caring environment. The physician works closely with the hospital staff to provide compassionate, affordable cardiac care.

Moses Cone Heart and Vascular Center services are comparable to the finest university medical facilities, yet the Heart Center is located in the Piedmont Triad, near the people it serves.

In recent years, the demand for cardiac procedures at Moses Cone Heart and Vascular Center has more than doubled. Currently, more than 1,000 open-heart surgeries, 1,600 angioplasties (with and without stenting), 5,500 diagnostic cardiac catheterizations and 1,000 electrophysiology/pacemaker procedures are performed annually at the Heart Center.

The Heart and Vascular Center offers 24-hour, mobile, critical-care transportation; state-of-the-art technology for diagnostic, interventional and electrophysiology procedures; a three-phase Cardiac Rehabilitation Program at Moses Cone Hospital and at Annie Penn Hospital in Reidsville; and a team of physicians, nurses and specially trained support staff. Dedicated operating room and cath lab teams are on call 24 hours a day.
