The Neuroscience Center is based on the belief that each individual is entitled to realize maximum potential through quality medical, nursing and rehabilitation services based on sound intervention and efficient service delivery. Enhancement of the quality of life is accomplished through restoration of function and/or compensatory strategies, which ultimately permit the greatest level of independence.
The Neuroscience Center treats patients with a wide range of neurological problems, including stroke, acute head and spinal injuries, brain and spinal tumors, seizure disorders or neurological disorders, such as multiple sclerosis.
In the fall of 2000, Moses Cone Health System established a Stroke Center. The center not only brings new technology to treating stroke, but it also has changed the way strokes are diagnosed. These measures mean less brain damage and a faster recovery for people who have strokes.
As part of the Trauma Center, the neuroscience operative suites are available 24 hours a day for neurological trauma cases. The same care shown to those with acute needs also benefits patients who require important procedures such as back surgery.
Because each patient's quality of life is important, there is an emphasis on patient and family education, rehabilitation and discharge planning. Moses Cone Health System was the first health-care organization in the state to dedicate an inpatient unit, operative suite and recovery area to neurosciences.
